Athlete Rights Australia acknowledges the extraordinary campaign work of Gymnasts for Change, a UK body aligned with ARAโ€™s values in raising public awareness of abuse in sport, adverse institutional responses, and the need for cultural and structural change.

Thanks and acknowledgement to Gymnasts for Changeโ€™s CEO Claire Heafford and her team for inviting ARA co-founder Ali Quigley to London for the July 7 community screening of Broken Kids: The Untold Story of Young Athletes by director Pierre Emmanuel Luneau-Daurignac. Pierre discussed his work alongside UK director Johnathan Jones, whose film, Gymnastics: A Culture of Abuse?, was released earlier this year to a UK audience. The directors then gave the floor over to an international panel of gymnastics activists who discussed the degree to which gymnastics practices have changed since the release of Athlete A four years ago. I was fortunate to meet two extraordinary co-panelist ex-gymnasts: Germanyโ€™s three-time Olympian, Kim Bui, and Petra Witjes from the Netherlands, as well as Dutch & Swiss pioneer human rights expert Paulo David.
